A Smarter Approach to Treating Chronic Back Pain

Neurohab: Why Conventional Treatments Fall Short

Back pain is incredibility common throughout the world, affecting millions of people everyday and it is one of the leading causes of missed days of work and one of the biggest cost burdens in our health system.

There are thousands of medical and health professionals (physio, chiros, osteos) in Australia who see and treat patients with back pain everyday, so why does it continue to be such significant burden in our society?

The answer is unfortunately many of the common treatments provided for back pain (massage, injections, medications) only address the symptoms of back pain and not what is actually causing it!

So what is the cause of back pain? Many people are diagnosed with problems such as disc bulges or facet joint arthritis, but in reality, they are still symptoms and outcomes of the true cause: Movement Dysfunction

What is Neurohab and How Does It Work?

NeuroHAB is an innovative, research-backed and supervised movement therapy program pioneered by Neurosurgeon Dr David Johnston in Brisbane, Australia.

It is is an 8-week program (performed twice per week) that progressively re-educates the neuromuscular system. Through guided exercises and targeted movement strategies, patients learn to develop efficient and pain-free movement habits, addressing the underlying causes of chronic pain and movement dysfunction.

Unlike traditional treatments that focus solely on symptom relief, NeuroHAB restores proper movement patterns and spine biomechanics, leading to long-term improvements in function and well-being.

Is Neurohab Right for You?

If you have chronic back pain, feel like you have tried everything and have only achieved little to no relief, then NeuroHab is for you!

NeuroHab is about teaching you to move effectively so your spine is not overloaded with all your different movements throughout the day.

McGill Method Vs NeuroHab

You may have read our other pages on the McGill Method for treating back pain. The are both very similar, they are both focused on changing the way you move and improving the capacity of your spine. Many elements of the McGill Method is worked into the NeuroHab program.

The biggest difference is NeuroHab is a supervised program that requires you to attend twice per week, the McGill Method is more independent, however both have movements you have to practice at home.

To keep it simple, if you are in Melbourne's North and Western suburbs, the NeuroHab will be best for you.

If you are anywhere else, then the McGill Method will suit you best.
