Transport Accident Commission (TAC) & Exercise Physiology
Does TAC Cover Exercise Physiology?
If you've been injured in a transport accident, TAC may cover Exercise Physiology as part of your rehabilitation.
You do not require approval or a referral in the first 90 days after your accident.
If it has been more than 90 days, you will need to contact your TAC case manager for approval.
More information can be found on the TAC website.
It is important to understand that TAC will only partially cover the cost of your sessions. Some case managers will say you are fully covered, but this is very rare.
There will be a gap fee.
How to Get Approved for TAC-Funded EP
If you are attending in the first 90 days after your accident, just tell us your claim number and we'll take care of the rest!
If it has been more than 90 days since your accident:
-
Step 1: Get a referral from your GP or Medical Specialist.
-
Step 2: Contact your TAC case manager and send them the referral
(Your referral must be approved by TAC before starting treatment). -
Step 3: Once approved, TAC will send you an approval letter stating how many EP sessions they will fund and for how long, which can be extended if needed.
-
Step 4: Bring both the referral and approval letter to your first appointment (or send it beforehand for an even smoother process!)
Can I start EP sessions before TAC approval, or do I need to wait?
-
You certainly can start, you just won't be able to claim. It's better to just start so you can focus on getting better, rather than delaying your recovery just to save a bit of money.
What if my claim is denied—are there appeal options?
-
You will have to speak to TAC as to why, sometimes they require more information, which we are happy to provide if needed. Otherwise your best option is to seek legal advice.
